Justice Without Compromise: The Zero-Tolerance Approach of the UN and NATO

As part of the global campaign “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence,” taking place from November 25 to December 10, 2024, we invite you to participate in the workshop“Justice Without Compromise: The Zero-Tolerance Approach of the UN and NATO.”

Workshop Objective: to deepen understanding of zero-tolerance policies toward sexual violence in the defense sector, using NATO and UN policies as key examples.

Agenda:

  • Understanding Zero-Tolerance Policies: Overview of NATO and UN approaches to preventing sexual violence in military operations and peacekeeping missions.
  • Group Case Analysis: Work on case studies (NATO, UN, ECHR), followed by group presentations of proposed solutions.
  • Discussion:How can NATO and UN policies be adapted to the Ukrainian defense sector? The role of men and women in implementing zero-tolerance policies.

Olena Zaitseva, Gender Equality Expert with the PROTECT2 project will conduct the workshop. Olena is a experienced legal professional and a recognized expert in gender policy. She has significantly contributed to the development of key national documents, including Ukraine’s National Action Plan for the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace, and Security, among others.Her expertise spans cross-sectoral analysis, preventing gender-based violence, combating human trafficking, and strategic planning. Olena’s experience will ensure the workshop is both insightful and practically valuable.

Time: 5:00 PM – 6:30 PM. Registration starts at 5:00 PM, with the workshop beginning at 5:30 PM.

Location: Offline in central Kyiv. Details will be shared with confirmed participants.
